Firearm Cleaning Guide
Proper firearm cleaning helps maintain reliability, accuracy, and long-term performance. Swab-its® firearm cleaning swabs are designed to help clean bores, chambers, slides, rails, star chambers, optics, actions, and hard-to-reach firearm components.
Swab-its® Bore-tips®, Gun-tips®, Bore-Whips™, Bore-Sticks™, and Star Chamber Cleaning Foam Swabs™ are Made in the USA and designed for superior lint-free cleaning performance compared to cotton swabs, patches, and other disposable applicators.
Firearm Safety First
Always make sure your firearm is unloaded before cleaning. Remove any detachable magazines, confirm the chamber is empty, keep ammunition away from the cleaning area, and always point the firearm in a safe direction.
Follow your firearm manufacturer’s maintenance instructions. Before firing, make sure the bore is clear and dry.
Why Use Foam Swabs for Firearm Cleaning?
Foam swabs help apply solvent, remove fouling, absorb excess oil, clean tight spaces, and reduce loose fibers that can be left behind by cotton swabs or patches.
Many Swab-its® firearm cleaning swabs can be washed and reused depending on the solvent, fouling level, and condition of the foam.
Common Firearm Cleaning Applications
Bore Cleaning
Use Bore-tips® and Bore-Whips™ to apply solvent, remove fouling, dry the bore, and apply light lubrication.
Chamber Cleaning
Clean chambers, locking areas, and hard-to-reach spaces where fouling, residue, and debris collect.
Slides & Rails
Use Gun-tips® foam swabs to clean rails, grooves, seams, slides, actions, and small firearm components.
Star Chambers
Star Chamber Cleaning Foam Swabs™ help clean AR-15/M4 star chambers and lug recess areas.
Optics & Details

Lubrication
Apply a controlled amount of oil or lubricant to contact points, rails, and protected surfaces.
